Setting the goals you want

Have you ever had a goal, and gone after it for weeks or months, only to discover that what you were going after wasn't what you wanted at all, it was actually what someone else wanted for you, or something that you thought you should want, or would make someone else happy?  The process of goal setting can be a tricky thing, and when distinctly setting your goals, it's crucial to know that in the depths of your heart, this is what you really want.   If you set a goal of losing 20 pounds, make sure that this is what you want.  Why do you want it?  How will you benefit from acheiving your goal?  If there's no benefit to you, you won't be inspired and constantly strive to reach your goal because......it just won't be that important to you.

What is the pain that you face for every day that you don't get a little closer to your goals?  Do you feel good about yourself?  Are you enjoying your time with family and friends to the fullest?  Is there something that you could do after acheiving it that you can't do now?

There have been times in my life where I thought that I wanted something because someone that I deeply admired had set a similar goal, and in valuing their strengths so much, I thought that if I emulated their traits, I would be more like them.  What I realize now is that the very thing that made me look up to them was simply how true they were to themselves in life, and how strongly they knew what they wanted.  Be true to yourself when setting the goals you want.  Listen to your heart, and dare to dream about what you want, not what you think you can have.

Have a great Thursday!
