Laser Hair Removal...Bye Bye Shaving!

I’m overjoyed and girlishly excited to announce that I’ve gladly waved goodbye to shaving!

After fruitlessly trying every method of removing unwanted hair, as it’s been as issue for me since I was 13 years old, I’m finally free. Don’t the commercials on TV look promising? From gentle bleaches or shaving creams that smell like exotic tropical getaways, to expensive razors advertising magical results and waxing, laser hair removal is a blessing.

My Initial Reservations

  • I’m a bit delicate and I’d heard that laser hair removal can be unpleasant. Waxing is brutal enough and shaving a chore, but some people made laser hair removal sound excruciating.
  • Using a laser properly and safely is important. It’s definitely not something that every person who performs the procedure is qualified to do, so it’s crucial to be prudent.
  • It's a financial investment and doesn’t come cheap yet.

Benefits I Looked Forward To

  • How much time does a woman spend in her life endlessly shaving? I was looking forward to using that time elsewhere.
  • In the long run you save a fair amount of money when hair removal products and waxing are out of the picture.
  • More confidence (because I wouldn't be worried about missing something. Let's face facts...it happens).

My Laser Hair Removal Experience

After being recommended to Dr. Gary Chuang, a Doctor at Mass General Hospital ( http://www.massgeneral.org/dermatology/services/treatmentprograms.aspx?i...)  who specializes in laser hair removal, I went through an initial consultation. We needed to touch on what areas were important to me and how I should best prepare for the treatment.

I arrived an hour early as advised, and I was shown how to appy my tropical numbing cream to lessen the discomfort (yay!). His nurse was kind and helpful. She explained how to apply the stuff and then led me to a private waiting room where it could take effect.

The process didn’t take long and while the bikini area was rather sensitive, it’s quick and over before you know it. Dr. Chuang said I can expect about 4-6 more sessions, but everyone’s different. I’ll be returning every 4-6 weeks, and need to protect the area from  direct sunlight.

I’ll post another update after it’s all said and done, but as of right now I’d say if you can afford the procedure, go for it!
