You Are What You Eat...So What's Eating You?

The mainstream weight loss culture has people so focused on micro-managing things like calories, saturated fats, and carbs that they often forget to examine whether what they’re looking at is actually food or not!

From Frankenfoods and genetically modified produce to chemical concoctions and overly packaged, processed, and preserved products, is what you’re eating really eating you?

Definition of Food

From a digital version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

“Material consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, and fat used in the body of an organism to sustain growth, repair, and vital processes and to furnish energy.”

Ok, then in that case food is something that nourishes and enriches our body, empowering our minds and immune systems. Then why is the modern human race facing unprecedented obesity and diabetes epidemics? It’s like the food supply is eating us rather than the other way around.

We grew so used to seeing Lean Cuisines, sugar free this or that, Splenda, and diet sodas that we started to perceive these things as food, but in reality they’re food-like. There’s a cosmic correlation between what we eat, how we feel, and what we look like.

21st Century Good News

Like a spreading plague, the current established corporate kings of the food-sphere are afraid of how informed the public is getting. Through scandals, independent studies, and consumer watch-dogs their dark wizardry is surfacing; coming to light and the people are fighting back with grass-roots legislation and better spending habits.

Furthermore the health of our nations and the obesity levels are waking us up (not to mention projected health care costs). In vast hordes we’re heading back to nature, and increasingly seeking out food in or close to its natural form.

4 Tips to Discovering Real Food

  1. When you’re in a grocery store shop around the perimeter where perishables and non-refrigerated/packaged goods are kept.
  2. There’s no need to go hardcore paleo, but think natural produce, fresh lean meats and non-GMO fish, organic eggs, and maybe some probiotic yogurt for dairy.
  3. Avoid artificial anything, especially sugars. What’s the point of sugar-free candy? What’s the point of sugar-free…sugar? The powers that be have declared war on plenty of drugs, but left sugar alone. Check out this frightening article about sugar from Forbes. The info-graphic is disturbing.
  4. Fat is a good thing; it’s your friend and the most potent source of energy. However, the problem is too much of the fat available in stores and within the food supply isn’t natural, but man-made.

It doesn’t make sense to be both obese and suffering from malnutrition does it? If you’re not careful what you eat can hollow out and destroy what’s inside you, while bloating and fattening your exterior.

Real, natural, and organic foods fill you up, keep you young and looking healthy, and make your body work efficiently in nearly every respect. Somewhere along the line it became profitable in the west to get people sick through cheap food. Enough is enough! We’re done being oppressed through food-economics and ready for something better. Thank goodness.
