Question:

Lately I have been bloated at times when I wouldn't normally expect it.  Help!  What can I do?

Answer:

Okay, so this is a bit of a long answer, but here are some things that can cause bloating..... get ready, it's not a short list.

Flying.  This is the worst.  Chewing gum, fake sugar, dairy, swallowing air, foods that you have sensitivities too, anxiety, and taking in more fiber than you are used to can all cause bloating.  It's dependent on the individual but for me there are a few specific things that seem to irritate me.  Dairy and fake sugar are the worst offenders.  When I came back from Italy this spring, my weight was literally up a full 7 pounds, simply because of the large amount of dairy that I had consumed,  Fortunately after a few days of drinking plenty of water and eating clean again I was back to normal, but the dairy didn't make me look (or feel) my best.

Although these things are all major sources of the dreaded bloat (c'mon, we all want a nice flat stomach don't we?) I think that there is something even bigger that most people never think about.  When I was in my late 20's I started to notice more frequent bloating, and stomach upset, and I began to research what I could do to feel like myself again.  I did my research and wound up investing in a super gentle three month cleanse (it's a product called Dr Natura) and it made a huge difference in how I looked and felt.  We do so much maintenance to take care of our teeth, hair and nails, but somehow we tend to forget about our insides.  I truly believe that doing this cleanse made me healthier, and also....ta da!  Look soooo much better.  I know it sounds crazy, but the same bloating problems never returned.  No that doesn't mean I can drink a gallon of milk and keep my flat stomach, but at least most of the time I feel like my old self.  I do have to say that I recommend the cleanse that I used, not just any old cleanse....and you have to be patient, all good things take time.....

I also find that asparagus, green tea, ginger, warm water with lemon and avocado are all excellent ways to get rid of the dreaded bloat.

Just my experience:)
