My posing session with Nicole Costa of Bodyrock.

I'm competing in a WBFF competition in November, and I'm working to prepare myself better for this competition than I did for the last.  I love, love the training, but I always slack on my stage preparation, perhaps because it isn't something that comes naturally for me.  As you may or may not know, I have a tendancy to be a little shy, and have always been nervous to stand up in front of a large crowd (which is part of the reason that I do this.....to challenge myself).   I was given Nicole Costa's name, and told that she is an excellent coach.  After my posing session yesterday, I have to agree.

My day started out a little rocky.  Leaving the city is no easy task, because for me it means renting a car.  Just my luck, the last person left in in a random spot, so it felt like an Easter egg hunt, without the fun!  My GPS managed to take me to a random location instead of her studio, it was just one of those days!  Nicole was super helpful in getting me to the studio, and thank goodness I had booked extra time so we still had some!  I'm going to be early next time:)

The Body Rock studio is a beautiful space.  It has a Soho loft sort of feel, and is airy and open...tucked away in a renovated brick building.  From the second I met Nicole I felt at ease.  Although she looked impeccable from head to toe, wearing leggings, boots and flawlessly applied makeup (you know....the kind of woman that inspires you to look your best, because she looks so fabulous) she also had the easy, warm, and friendly attitude that made you feel like you belonged, and didn't have a thing to worry about.  For me, this welcoming attitude is important.  Learning new things is tough, and I get frustrated/ nervous, so having a kind and knowlegdeable teacher is key.

We went over different options for what I could practice for my few minutes on stage, and I was surprised by how much fun it was, and how different I could make my body look just by altering a few things with my posture.  Their is so much more to gain from doing a fitness competiton than the changes you can make with your physique.  In my mind, the way you walk, and carry yourself and what you exude from the inside is 100 times more important than what you see on the outside.  It's that Je ne sais quois.... and yes, I do believe it can be cultivated.  To me, working on stage presense is bringing to the forefront what is already there.  It's sharing (in a genuine way) the excitement, happiness and gratitude that I feel to be able to do what I do, and celebrating my hard work.  What Nicole showed me was so fun, and so current.  It wasn't about being a robot and just going through the motions, instead it was somewhat of a cross between Miss Usa, a Victoria's Secret fashion show and ballroom dance (which I have always loved) mixed with my energy and natural way of being........  I think anyone could benefit from this:)

Counting my blessings that I have amazing experts like Nicole who are so generous with their knowledge!  If you'd like to learn more about Body Rock (or buy one of her amazing neon tees) Her website is: http://www.bodyrockri.com

Just a thought,
